During my Siviløkonom studies, I had the opportunity to work as a research assistant on a project led by Professor Kalanit Efrat. This project explored Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Resources Used by Czech Republic Born Global Firms, focusing on how these firms navigate intensive international growth from the outset.
My role centered on data collection through a qualitative cross-sectional design, where I conducted 13 in-depth interviews with top executives from Czech Born Global firms and representatives from Venture Capital firms. The process began with a thorough identification of companies that fit our criteria—firms that had engaged in international markets immediately upon founding. Once suitable firms were identified, I initiated outreach, introducing the research objectives and inviting executives to participate, offering them insights into industry trends through the research outcomes. The outreach process was challenging, as the limited number of qualifying firms willing to participate extended the timeline. Nevertheless, the interviews were highly engaging and insightful, providing a deeper understanding of the varied strategies organizations use to scale internationally right from their inception. After each interview, I transcribed the recording (as agreed upon prior to the interview) and, when necessary, translated the interview from Czech to English. All interviews and data handling followed proper protocols, including anonymization and secure deletion to maintain confidentiality.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work under Professor Efrat’s guidance and gain valuable experience in qualitative research. I highly recommend research assistant positions to students, as they offer hands-on learning, industry insight, and practical interview skills that prove invaluable when it comes time to write a master’s thesis.
